APIBAN now integrates with fail2ban
We have a new go(lang) based APIBAN client that will send IP addresses directly to your chosen fail2ban jail. The new client comes to us from concerns of FreePBX users of fail2ban fighting iptables additions. There’s other benefits for freepbx users, including seeing IP addresses in the GUI, etc. There’s also a super simple, lazy install method: curl -sSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/apiban/apiban-fail2ban/main/install.sh | bash -s -- APIBANKEY (where APIKEY is your APIBAN API KEY)...
I tried to buy an iPhone
It’s been a long time since I bought my first Mac and got an iPhone not much later. I like Apple for the most part. Spent a few years with just a linux laptop/desktop, but got a M2 Macbook Air last year and, well… I say all that to say this: For the most part, I’m pretty happy with Apple. Products are good, usable, etc. Don’t have many problems. Because of this, and since it’s been a few years since the Mrs and I have upgraded the phone, I decided to get her one of those new iPhone 15 Pros....
Kamailio World 2024: Coming Soon
Next stop, Berlin! In just 2 weeks, Kamailio World 2024 will be held in-person and in Berlin. This year, there’s location and I’m excited to both attend and speak. If you haven’t gotten tickets, there’s still time to register. My talk is titled HTABLE vs REDIS: Is There A Performance Benefit? and is set for April 18th. Looking forward to seeing many of you (and hopefully meeting more people from the community as well)....
New (Old) Look for the Blog
Well, so much for that. After trying poison for a while, I just didn’t like it. I did love the mermaid diagrams though… Oh well. I went back to an oldie but a goodie… papermod. Clean, simple, dark mode. The only thing it was missing was those damn mermaid diagrams. Of course, that was easy enough to add.
New Look for the Blog
Another day, another template… this time I’m trying out poison. One of the neat things with this template is the incorporation of Mermaid diagrams sequenceDiagram participant Alice participant Kamailio participant Bob Alice->>Kamailio: INVITE Kamailio->>Alice: 100 Trying Kamailio->>Bob: INVITE Bob->>Kamailio: 180 Ringing Kamailio->>Alice: 180 Ringing Bob->>Kamailio: 200 OK Kamailio->>Alice: 200 OK Alice->>Kamailio: ACK Kamailio->>Bob: ACK Alice->>Kamailio: BYE Kamailio->>Bob: BYE Bob->>Kamailio: 200 OK Kamailio->>Alice: 200 OK Seems like a pretty awesome feature for someone who blogs a bit about SIP, no?...

Astricon 2024/ITEXPO
I won’t be attending Astricon this year. Once again, Astricon has co-located with ITEXPO in beautiful Fort Lauderdale, similar to the old Asterisk World events (that Sangoma ended soon after acquiring Digium). Astricon, in past years, attracted an audience of more than 1000 attendees, a decent sized expo (focused on open source telephony), and multiple presentation tracks held over several days. This year, similar to last year’s Astricon, the conference will be a single track and (new for 2024) only one day long....
Kamailio World 2024 Announced
Kamailio World remains one of my favorite events of the year. I am very excited that Kamailio World will again be held in-person and in Berlin. I’ve gotten the tickets… I’ve made my reservations at the new venue… and I am ready to see Kamailians from across the globe as we discuss all things Kamailio. If you’ve never been, you can see some past events on the Kamailio World YouTube Channel....
APIBAN Now with HTTP Honeypot Data
You’ve probably heard me say (once or twice)… APIBAN helps prevent unwanted SIP traffic by identifying addresses of known bad actors before they attack your system. Bad actors are collected through globally deployed honeypots and curated by LOD/APIBAN. I started APIBAN back in 2020 and for the past 3 years have greatly enjoyed helping others protect their SIP systems from IP addresses sending unwanted traffic. The service is provided for FREE....
Thanksgiving Message 2023
Clearly, my goal of writing more in 2023 failed significantly. As many Americans travel to celebrate Thanksgiving, our family once again will celebrate locally here in Gainesville. This year presented many challenges and with challenging years, it becomes harder to focus on giving thanks. Of course, when we do take the time to focus, the difficulties fade. I am incredibly grateful to have a healthy daughter. Although, with starting school, we’ve experienced the stereotypical petri dish of diseases (enough where the pediatrician’s office knows us by sight), our visits are always something that can be resolved quickly....
