I'm posting anonymously this time, Fred, because of what I have to say. Anyone who knows me will probably know who this is and you do, obviously, b/c you have my email.

This is, IME, very typical of Ann Arbor. By and large, Ann Arbor has not suffered the recession like most of the rest of the state and country. We have hundreds of overpaid (yes, I said it!) professors (including those who get paid not to work, and call it sabbatical) and other UM staff. We have our fair share of executives (there's a large contingency of housewives in our fair city, so I presume that their husbands make enough to support them) and other self made people. I don't begrudge people their success (well, maybe a little, but that's pure human nature envy on my part), but I think that this town needs a reality check.

This proposal makes us look like freaks. Like this area doesn't give a shit about the rest of the state and only cares about giving paid college tuitions to certain folks. That's fabulous that Smith and her daughter in law Warren have such great incomes and can subsidize someone else's college education. I am not in that situation and probably never will be.

(And don't get me started about what a waste of time so many college programs are...I majored in Communications and Political Science, neither of which got me very far in the real world, believe you me).

Sorry to be so bitter, but this pisses me off.
