I booked a flight from PHX to Cebu, Philippines via Seoul with Asiana. One of the legs (the first one from PHX to LAX was with US-Airways). the flight would have been on 3/31, I booked this at the beginning of January 2010 and it was confirmed. In february 2010 I received a message that "a flight schedule change" had occured. this "change" was the cancellation of the first segment - no alternative connection was offered and suddenly my flight out of PHX was showing up as a flight out of LAX. I cancelled the entire trip, including the Hotel reservation. Just because of that one leg with US-Airways from PHX to LAX. (I believe that there are flights every hour or two from PHX to LAX but Asiana and US-Airways did not bother to book me onto a different flight....)

Okay, that's why I wanted your opinion...since you were there and I wasn't.
You need to write a strongly worded letter and get free stuff!!!!

You know, if it was a man, I actually think the guy may have gotten physical with him, but would have definitely called him an asshole. I don't think it was anti-woman... I truly think it was a bitch/asshole type of call and either one would be appropriate (for the gender). You rarely hear women called assholes.

Yuck. I'm sorry.

I do have to bring something up, and I want your honest opinion. If it had been a man manager, do you think that guy would have yelled, "It's that stupid bastard/prick/fucker who told us to go". If the manager had been black or Hispanic, would that guy have yelled, "Hey, it's that stupid (Fill in the blank)...."

While I don't identify as a feminist particularly, I have noticed that women are immediately called "bitch" in such situations. Now, she may have been a bad manager, but I still wonder if that "b" word was really necessary.

Fred,

Another brilliant piece. I'm flying to North Carolina in early June and hope to God it wont be on US Airways. I am glad you were able to release the "wrath of Posner" if somewhat subdued at that! Glad you finally made it home safe.

Fred,

I literally feel your pain. I've put on >50k air miles in the last quarter. Happily, mostly on Continental, my preferred carrier. But sadly, some on USAirways. They suck in ways that are even hard to express.

As you note, there are other airlines that still take customer service seriously...even in troubled times. Let's just hope that telepresence and the like reaches down far enough to change the airline industry. Prices need to go up, and service quality return.

Maybe air travel needs to be special and costly, like in its early days.
