October means AstriCon; the longest-running event devoted to all-things Asterisk. AstriCon celebrates one of the most influential open source telecommunication projects in history and also its future impact on the communications industry. At AstriCon, you get to learn from great speakers… Daniel Mierla will be talking about using the right storage engine with Kamailio, Alex Balashov will be discussing the changing winds of ITSPs in the cloud, and I will certainly not be attending Sean McCord’s talk on containing Asterisk inside of Kubernetes....

I love Waffle House. Not as much as my friend Patrick, but love it nonetheless. For those not in know, Waffle House is a 24/7 restaurant chain with more than 2,000 locations across the US. Very popular in the South, Chances are if you’re driving on a highway in the South/Midwest/”lower” East, you’ll see their yellow/black signs from the highway. “If you get there and the Waffle House is closed? That’s really bad....

In just a couple weeks, the Mrs. and I will be headed back to Berlin for Kamailio World. Last year, we visited for the first time and Berlin truly made an amazing impression. Yeni and I have always shared different views on punctuality, so visiting a city where timeliness actually means something had me in a great mood. Food was great, pricing was amazing, and transportation was easy. Fred and Yeni in Berlin To gear up for the trip last year, we upgraded our credit card to a card with no foreign transaction fees; and then found most places we visited in the city (as well as Germany as a whole) preferred cash....

This year I decided to head down to Orlando and catch the Enterprise Connect show. Usually, the VoIP shows I attend deal with open source products and target Developers (as well as users, purchasers, etc). Enterprise Connect mostly highlights non-open source telephony offerings from such companies as Cisco, Slack, Microsoft, Avaya, etc. After a few days here in beautiful Orlando, I still am not sure who Enterprise Connect had in mind for a target audience. Did they want those with technical skills? Not sure– none of the talks really went into anything technical. Decision makers? Influencers? No idea. ...

TL/DR; — Even older, even fatter, longer goatee. Last year, Yeni and I crossed some items off her bucket list; most importantly visiting Castle Neuschwanstein and making it to Europe. I was able to attend a Kamailio World which exceeded all of by greatest expectations (I’ve already blocked out 2018). ...

Welcomed 2017 with a new profile pic, posted here in it’s OMG did you need a profile shot that big glory: Fred Posner 2017 Profile Pic I’ve used a few profile shots over the years… from cartoons to Brooklyn, more cartoons to shots of me and the Mrs at Disney… It’s nice to go through and see the changes… maybe not so much the increasing size and grey… but nice nonetheless....
