I love my wife

Posted . ~3min read.

Been a rough few months for the wife’s business and sadly, we had to announce the closure of Bearkery® earlier this week.

For 10 years, I’ve watched Yeni pour her heart and sole into the bakery and although we saw it coming and prepared, the end was nonetheless heartbreaking.

She’s done some amazing work… gained some incredible press (now and then)… and started the bakery from absolutely nothing. I couldn’t be more proud of my amazing wife.

For 10 years, Yeni helped countless people celebrate life’s events. Weddings, new babies, divorces, birthdays, funerals, graduations, to you name it– every celebration deserved a cake from Yeni. She’s been copied (her Batman and Places you’ll Go cakes especially), some of her cakes were turned into molds (without asking her of course), and she’s been featured on Cake Wrecks in the good way. =)

She’s dealt with gossip, bad business practices, and unfair competition… and did so with kindness and class. She remained true to her principles and never once compromised on quality.

I couldn’t be more proud of what Yeni accomplished.

At it’s heart, the bakery was an event business. And even incredible support from the open source VoIP community, with no events, we just couldn’t make it work.

I’m incredibly grateful… for the sacrifice / example from Yeni to the generosity of the open source community and our friends. Thank you all for helping us run a little family bakery for just over 10 years.

Not sure where the next step is for Yeni yet… I’m still sitting in front of a keyboard. =)

Our official statement:

10 years ago, we started Bearkery® and focused mostly on custom decorated cakes. As time progressed, we focused more on cookies, pastries, and event catering. We used real ingredients to make high quality, from scratch baked goods that would make our customers happy.

We are incredibly grateful to the customers and supporters of our bakery and cannot properly express our gratitude and deepest appreciation for allowing us to run a small, family bakery for the last 10 years.

Due to current events, we unfortunately must announce the temporary closing of our bakery. Should circumstances drastically change, we may try again, however at this time we have no expectations.

We will still be available in a limited capacity through Florida cottage laws.

We are proud of what we’ve done and our contributions to the local economy. In 10 years, we’ve spent more than 750,000 dollars locally and encourage you to please choose a local brick and mortar business whenever you can. The money you spend in your community on licensed businesses stays in the community.

We leave you with our thanks, our love, and our same message printed on our labels… always be kind.

With love,
Yeni & Fred
